"Gautier High School - a Level Five nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School isn't one of the best in Mississippi-- it is one of the very best in the country!"

-Governor Haley Barbour (2006)

"Gautier High School is the best school my children have ever attended."

-a Navy Captain's Wife (2004)

Gautier has the most complete set of educational opportunities for you and your family of any community on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Not only does Gautier offer college courses at both the Jackson County Community College and University of Southern Mississippi Building, Gautier has Excellent public schools for your children to attend as well.

We will explore that further in a moment, but first for the confusing part. Due to Gautier only recently becoming a city, there is no specific school system that all students in Gautier attend. Instead, most students attend schools in Gautier that are part of the Pascagoula School District while the few students on the western side of the city attend schools in either the Ocean Springs School district or the Jackson County School District.

Regardless of which system they attend, your students will be attending some of the best schools in the nation. Many people moving to the Mississippi Coast are worried about the quality of education in Mississippi but on the Coast we have spent considerable time, money, and effort to produce an outstanding education system. Mississppi ranks schools on a five point scale and all of the schools in Gautier rank as Three ("Successful") or better with the High Schools ranking as a Five ("Superior-Performing"). Students in our schools routinely score in the top 10% of students statewide as measured by the "End of Course" testing programs that all Mississippi districts are required to perform.

Parents who moved here thinking their previous schools in other states were doing a good job have been shocked to find that their children needed to be held back a grade in Gautier due to not being competitive in the classroom. We are extremely confident that you will be satisfied with the education system that your children are entering.

Special Note: All of the students in Gautier's schools wear school uniforms which is really just a very strict clothing code. Please consult with each of your children's schools to see what is permitted in their school or visit the Pascagoula Municipal School District website for the actual rules.

Secondary Schools: "Go Gators!"

 Gautier High School

After a bond issue was passed, a long-time dream of the citizens of Gautier came true when Gautier's first High School opened its doors in 1996. For a community centered around its young people it was the perfect new arrival. Almost immediately the football team rose to prominence in state 4-A competition. So many fans would travel to out-of-town games that the hosting schools would have to rent temporary bleachers to hold Gautier's fans.

On the Academic side, Gautier High School was recognized in 1999 as one of Mississippi's finest schools in a video produced by the Mississippi Department of Education to showcase success stories in Mississippi schools. The focus of the video was on the use of technology in GHS classrooms. Gautier High School fully deserved its 5.0 Ranking this year by the State of Mississippi.

As the school's principal (and current District Superintendent) said in a 2001 news interview, "I've never seen anything like it. People from the community just stop in to ask if there is anything they can do to help. Some of them don't even have kids here!"

 Gautier Elementary School

The oldest of Gautier's schools, Gautier Elementary opened in the 1930's. Until College Park Elementary opened 40 years later it was known as the Gautier School and housed all grades except for the High School students.

While it is an older building it is a popular school nonetheless, perhaps due to its being a part of Gautier's history. It is currently closed as a result of damage from Hurricane Katrina.

 College Park Elementary School

College Park Elementary opened in 1970. It has the largest student population of any of Gautier's elementary schools. It is located so close to the neighborhoods that it serves that many of its students walk or ride their bicycles to school.

However, there are so many students within its area that you should not assume that it is where your child will attend school without first checking with the school district.

CPE is the acronym not only for the school but also its Mission: Consistently Pursuing Excellence!

 Singing River Elementary School

Singing River Elementary opened in 1975. It was the first school in Gautier to be located North of Highway 90. It was originally designed as an "Open School" with no walls dividing the classes. That concept has since gone the way of the Dodo Bird.
